OK know it is technically physically impossible, but that is just a challenge...

Colored fire is no big deal I am sure we have all seen in but there is a color missing, we have:

Red
Orange
Yellow
Green
Blue
Purple

And you can even make White.

So the rainbow and all is covered. But no void. No absence. In short no BLACK looking flame. Now an actual black fire is just not physically possible given that flame is the release of energy through heat and light, and black is the absence or absorption of visible light. Something that buns out side the visible spectrum would just burn clear with a heat ripple. So for you masochist how would one bring in the balance of a black flame to cover all the colors even though technically black is not a color... And while technically it would do please no black holes.

Extra credit if you come up with a formula. smile

When I was a kid we had a jar of colored sawdust that we were allowed to use on the fireplace (very sparingly, since we didn't know where to get more). The stuff fascinated me.

Here are a couple articles for anyone who wants to experiment:

Hmmm I can make fire from ice. Does that count?

Hehe it's pretty easy actually. You polish a piece of ice until its convex like a magnifying glass, which you then use to concentrate sunlight to light your tinder.

And, the sun doesn't melt the ice before you get fire? I think that here in Florida it would be impossible. Maybe if it's below zero it would be more feasible to me.
