As kids, we always gave handmade gifts for Yule.

I still like to do that. Sometimes it's less expensive - and in this age, that's important to consider - but mostly because when you do something by hand, you put your heart and energy in it.

Here's some things I or folks I know have made or given:

Food:

Handmade fettuccine (with a recipe).
Beer, mead and liqueurs.
Cannolis.
Homebaked bread.
Stuffed cabbage.
Jars of mixed spices with a recipe.
Cheese.
Herb-infused honey.
Herb-infused oils and vinegars.
Marinated mushrooms, garlic or pickles.
Homemade spaghetti sauce.

Crafted items:

Incense or mixed oils.
Candles.
Book boxes.
Traveling altars.
Handmade paper.
Handmade ink. (And THAT can be a bit of work!)
Poetry written especially for the receiver.
Quill pens made from found feathers.
Clothing.
Pottery objects.
Paintings.

Found objects:

Feathers. (I tend to find a lot of feathers in the wild, and I save them for magickal purposes, to make writing quills (wild turkey feathers for example) or just as lovely decorations. Do make sure it's legal to do this in your state!

Stones, fossil rocks and crystals.
A basket of pine cones. (For kindling. Or for eating if you have pinions.)
Birch fire logs.
Wild berries. (Fresh or sun-dried.)
Pressed or dried flowers and herbs.
Especially beautiful pieces of driftwood.
Old bottles (if you have a bottle-dump nearby).

Gifts of time, energy or experience:

Help with a project they're working on (depending on your skill and ability).
A trip to the zoo.
A picnic lunch.
A hike to somewhere special, they've never been.
A massage.
An hour in a hot tub.
Cook a special romantic dinner for them and their sig. other.
A visit to meet someone you consider special (a wise elder, etc.).
An hour or three with another craftsman of a craft they're trying to learn.
Admission to open magickal (or mundane) classes or seminars.

"Time/Energy" coupons:

These ones have to be very tailored to the people you're giving them to and to yourself. Since they are redeemable any time they need them (within reason - obviously not while you're dealing with an emergency).

Several of the ones I mentioned above might be appropriate. Also:

A hug. (Give them several of these coupons.)
Tea or coffee and a long talk.
Take a class together.
Go to a movie, concert, etc together.
Dinner at your house.
Babysit their kids (or pets).
Clean their house.
Breakfast in bed.
They get to win the argument. (Be cautious with this one. biggrin )
Help with a project. (Making robes, gardening, etc.) They get to specify the project.
A ride/company to somewhere they don't want to go alone (anything from the doctor to dinner with their parents's to someone to go to a party with). They get to specify where.
