| Oh Tell Me Why
Oh tell me why, oh tell me why Tell me why must the clouds come to darken the sky Oh tell me why, oh tell me why Tell me why must the clouds come to darken the sky
This is the wake of Lugh the Sun King He lost his life on the Solstice day This is the wake of Lugh the Sun King He steps into the dark and guides the way
author unknown
Edit by Lemur: This chant is also used at Lammas, sometimes, and in that case just substitute "Lammas" for "Solstice". Technically, Lugh lost the battle on Solstice but went into the corn on Lammas.
Just love this one.

| Green God, Living God
This is one I learned while I was in the WRCF (Wiccan Religious Cooperative of Florida) at one of our rituals. I believe the chant is original to the WRCF and may have been created by Ken Windwalker, one of the founding members of that organization. R.I.P., Ken, I'll never forget the joy of knowing you.
The tune is original and at the moment I don't have a way of reproducing it, but I'm working on that.
It's a call and response chant. Typically, the lead singer would lead one stanza, then someone else would take up another stanza. The lead would go around taking turns around the circle until folks had run out of either inspiration or energy.
Incidentally, since this is a chant for the Green God, the aspects for this song should deal with nature, and particularly plant.
Lead: Green God All: Green God Lead: Living God All: Living God Lead:_____ God (mention an aspect of the God - generally two syllables to fit the tun but that can be worked with via stacatto) All: ___ God (whatever the Lead just said.) Lead: Lord of ____ (mention something relating to that aspect - generally one syllable or two, but again, work w it.) All: Lord of ____(whatever the Lead just said)
Chorus: Lead: Hey yah! All: Hey yah! Lead: Hey yah! All: Hey yah!
Lead: Green God, Living God, _____ God, Lord of _____ All: Green God, Living God, _____ God, Lord of _____
Here's the one I recall specifically:
Lead: Green God All: Green God Lead: Living God All: Living God Lead: Wicker God All: Wicker God Lead: Lord of Chairs All: Lord of Chairs
Chorus: Lead: Hey yah! All: Hey yah! Lead: Hey yah! All: Hey yah!
Lead: Green God, Living God, Wicker God, Lord of Chairs. All: Green God, Living God, Wicker God, Lord of Chairs.
The stanzas can be as humorous or as straight as you want them to be. Obviously the puns are more fun.
Here's another I either remember or just made up:
Lead: Green God All: Green God Lead: Living God All: Living God Lead: Willow God All: Willow God Lead: Lord of Aspirin All: Lord of Aspirin
Chorus: Lead: Hey yah! All: Hey yah! Lead: Hey yah! All: Hey yah!
Lead: Green God, Living God, Willow God, Lord of Asprin. All: Green God, Living God, Willow God, Lord of Asprin.
Other suggestions: Barley God, Lord of Beer Oak Leaf God, Lord of Nature Grain (Or Wheat Grain) God/Lord of Bread Wormwood God/Lord of Poisons Oat Grain God/Lord of Porridge Have fun with this one!

| Song: The Mabon Artist: Damh The Bard Album: The Hills They Are Hollow
Twisting shapes In the moonlight
I hear the rhythm Of the distant Pagan drums
Within the hills
Shadows dance In the sunlight
I feel the power Of the wise And ancient ones
Now I must go
Beyond the world We see Where Spirit runs With bull and stallion
Cross Earth And Sky and Sea The Mabon I shall be
By Earth and Water Air and Fire With blood and spirit And desire
A fire In my head I will wear The antlered crown
Fires burning At midnight
Across the world I hear my story Being told
Father and Son
Chanting voices At midnight
Are singing songs About the power That I hold
The newborn Sun
Beyond the world We see Where Spirit runs With bull and stallion
Cross Earth And Sky and Sea The Mabon I shall be
By Earth and Water Air and Fire With blood and spirit And desire
A fire In my head I will wear The antlered crown
And in the forest Dance with me And in your heart You shall be free
For I am you And you will find That you are me
Shadows cast In the sunlight
I see my Children turn their eyes Towards the sky
Towards the Sun
Dawn of life In the sulight
Mithras Osiris Dionysis Herne and Pan
We all are one
Beyond the world We see Where Spirit runs With bull and stallion
Cross Earth And Sky and Sea The Mabon I shall be
By Earth and Water Air and Fire With blood and spirit And desire
A fire In my head I will wear The antlered crown
And in the forest Dance with me And in your heart You shall be free
For I am you And you will find That you are me

| Noon of Solstice
Damh- the Bard
In times long past lived a Man of green, And his footsteps brought life wherever he'd been. In the deepest wildwood was the place he was seen, And the people did love and protect him. And they saw his face change, with the turn of the Wheel of the Seasons, They heard his voice sing.
(Chorus) I'm the Horned God, I'm the face in the trees, I'm the breath of the wind that rustles the leaves, I'm the Green Man in the wildwood I roam, Cernunnos, I'm Pan and I'm Herne. I shall be as the Dark Holly King, Darkness and cold in my cloak I will bring, And on Winter's nights to me you will sing, Till the air around me starts changing, And on the noon of the solstice I'll give up my crown, To the Light and the Mighty Oak King. All Summer long I shall rule just and fair, Bring your crops to fruit with the light that I share, With fire and water, from earth into air, But the Wheel it keeps steadily turning. And on the noon of the Solstice I'll give up my crown, To the cold and the Dark Holly King. T'is now modern times and the Summer is here, The Winter has gone and the air it is clear, On a fine day I walked through a woods I live near, When a battle I spied through a clearing, Two giants of leaves, one light and one dark, Even now the Wheel it is turning!
